This comic is made on 6 canvas panels. This work tells the story of the sign journey in Indonesia, especially visual signs, from prehistoric to contemporary times.

Canvas Panel 1 (cover page):

Contains title, relief form, and puppet mounts. The shape of one of the reliefs in Borobudur is a reminder that Indonesia has known the language of comics for a very long time. The relief of the ship represents the word journey. The shape of the mountains of shadow puppets is a sign that Indonesia has long known stories (literature), and this story is one of the characteristics of comics.

Canvas Panel 2 (page 1), consisting of 3 comic panels:

1: Punden terraces and menhirs from prehistoric times.

2: Majapahit Gate and relief of Surya Majapahit.

3: Gedhe Kauman Mosque Yogyakarta and Mantingan Mosque reliefs.

Canvas Panel 3 (page 2), consisting of 3 panels:

1: VOC ships and symbols.

2: Hiroshima Bomb.

3: Hotel Yamato Incident

Canvas 4 (page 3), consisting of 2 panels:

1: The Old Order which is represented through the Monas shape and the Ganefo logo.

2: The New Order which is represented through the form of development and comic censorship letters.

Canvas 5 (page 4), consisting of 1 panel:

The DPR/MPR building is noisy with social media signs. The social media icons arranged on the cellphone screen are also reminiscent of comic panels.

Canvas 6 (page 5), consisting of 1 panel:

Question marks about future signs.

Additional information:

On each page there is a “mega cloudy” shape, which is made simply. Mega mendung, which is widely used in Indonesian batik, is an adaptation of ornaments originating from China. The existence of these signs throughout the pages of this comic shows that the journey of signs in Indonesia cannot be separated from the presence of the Chinese.
